This week, we announce our support of Python and MicroPython, release two new IoT RedBoards, a new USB-C RFID Reader, a new Parts Kit, and three new motors!
Hello everyone and welcome back to another Friday Product Post here at SparkFun Electronics! This week we are excited to announce new libraries for MicroPython and two new IoT RedBoards (one equipped with an RP2350 and another with an ESP32 WROOM but comes pre-loaded with MicroPython). After that we have a new USB-C RFID Reader, a new Beginner Parts Kit, and three new Gimbal Motors! It's a big week and we don't want to wait any longer to tell ytou about everything new!

The SparkFun RP2350 IoT Redboard combines the Raspberry Pi® RP2350 microcontroller with the Raspberry Pi® RM2 radio module to provide a powerful and versatile wireless development platform in the Arduino R4 form factor. This IoT RedBoard also includes integrated battery power and charging circuits, µSD card slot, Qwiic connector, 3-pin debug header, as well as a 22-pin ribbon cable connector tied to the RP2350's HSTX (high-speed transmit) pins. The board shares a pinout between female headers and matching 0.1"-spaced plated through-hole (PTH) headers to allow you to choose between temporary or soldered connections.
This SparkFun ESP32 IoT RedBoard version is an ESP32 Development Board specially programmed to run MicroPython out of the box. It makes it easy to get started using SparkFun's 40+ MicroPython-capable modules. The ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip, designed to be both scalable and adaptive, is at the core of this module. The IoT RedBoard can target various applications, ranging from low-power sensor networks to the most demanding tasks, such as voice encoding, music streaming, and MP3 decoding. The IoT ReadBoard also utilizes our handy Qwiic Connect System, which means no soldering or shields are required to connect it to the rest of your system!
The SparkFun RFID USB-C Reader provides a streamlined solution for reading low-frequency RFID tags. This user-friendly breakout board, featuring a USB-C connector and a reliable CH340C USB-to-serial chip, is designed for seamless integration with ID-Innovations Tiny RFID modules (excluding Mifare and ID-3XX models marked with an “MF”). It includes integrated LED and buzzer indicators for clear read confirmations, which can be easily disabled to suit your preferences. This Reader also supports multiple output formats, including the default ASCII, Magnetic Emulation, and Wiegand26, offering greater flexibility for diverse applications.
The SparkFun Beginner Parts Kit is a small container of parts frequently used by beginning (or even experienced) hobbyists that gives you all of the essential through-hole components you will need to get started playing with embedded projects. These are the "bubble gum" parts we regularly use or have often seen requested in class. Inside this kit, you will find a good starter assortment of caps, ICs, regulators, diodes, and good-for-blinky LEDs. This kit also features our Adjustable Parts Box for better organization.
These high-performance 12V Gimbal Motors are designed for applications demanding efficient and reliable rotational movement. Their compact form factor house powerful motors capable of delivering nominal speeds from 467-587 RPM depending on which version you pick up. We offer these in 587 RPM both with and without encoders and a servo version!
