Welcome back, one and all, to another Friday Product Post here at SparkFun Electronics! This week, we have two new products to show you; the first features two new environmental sensors from our friends at Sensirion. The new SparkFun Qwiic CO2 Sensor features the STCC4 CO2 sensor and the SHT40 digital humidity and temperature sensor, giving you a way to measure actual CO2 concentrations, whereas pretty much every other sensor in its field only measures estimated levels. Following that, we have a new UHF RFID H9 Tag. This paper-thin, adhesive tag can stick to practically anything and delivers everything the previous version did in a slightly larger package. The SparkFun STCC4/SHT40 Qwiic CO2 Sensor is a simple indoor air quality breakout that primarily measures CO2 concentration, as well as temperature and relative humidity, over I2C. Specifically, the board features a pair of Sensirion sensors, isolated in their own section: the STCC4 CO2 sensor and the SHT40 digital temperature and humidity sensor. These two sensors work together to output precise and environmentally compensated CO2 readings without any complicated wiring.
While most CO2 sensors measure estimated CO2 concentration, the STCC4 uses thermal conductivity to directly measure actual CO2 concentrations from 400 to 5000 ppm (parts per million) with an accuracy of ±100ppm + 10% of the total reading. It outputs a calibrated digital signal that works with temperature and humidity data sent to it by the SHT40.
This paper-thin, adhesive UHF RFID tag has been designed for versatility and high performance. Measuring just 70mm x 20mm, it's small enough to stick to almost any object while still providing reliable wireless identification. Each tag is built around the H9 RFID chip, which offers significant upgrades in speed, range, and memory over the standard H3 generation.
