Orientation and Acceleration sensing with new SparkFun Qwiic BMI330 and BMA456 boards!
Hello and Happy Halloween from all of us here at SparkFun Electronics! We have two new, frighteningly accurate Qwiic breakouts featuring new motion and activity sensors from our friends at Bosch Sensortec! Our first new board features the low-power BMI330 6DoF IMU, which delivers fast, accurate inertial sensing for a wide range of applications, with a particular focus on harsh environments. Then we have a breakout for the BMA456 3-Axis Accelerometer, a low-g, high-performance sensor that can detect wrist tilt, taps, and double taps in wearable devices. Stick around until the end, because we also have price drops on our existing BMI270 and BMA400 Qwiic boards!
Before we get to these two new products and this week's price drops, a quick reminder: November starts this weekend (coincidentally, that's when daylight saving time ends here in the States, so remember to set your clocks back). Starting Monday, November 2nd, our November Deals sales event begins with 30% off select sensors! Each week, we put a new set of SparkFun Original products on sale to help you prepare for the holiday season, or if you simply want to save a few bucks and get something for yourself. Get an early look today and head over to the November Deals page to plan your sales shopping!
Now, lets take a closer look at some sensors that are sure to help you detect all of those things that go bump in the night!
The SparkFun 6DoF IMU Qwiic Breakout delivers precise acceleration and angular rate measurements, plus an intelligent, on-chip, motion-triggered interrupt engine that provides power-efficient motion tracking in a 1-inch-by-1-inch package. This 16-bit IMU sensor can be easily incorporated into your next project via solderless Qwiic connectors and handles complex tasks like step counting and tap detection internally, so your microcontroller is free to manage other operations. Oh, yeah, and it can beat the heat by operating at up to 105°C!
The SparkFun BMA456 Triple Axis Accelerometer Qwiic Breakout provides a high-precision movement sensor that measures acceleration and detects motion events on all three axes. Built around the Bosch Sensortec BMA456, this 16-bit sensor draws just 14µA in low-power mode, making it ideal for battery-powered wearables and fitness apps that need continuous monitoring without draining the power supply before you finish your activity tracking.
The SparkFun BMI270 6DoF IMU Breakout comes in a Qwiic-enabled standard 1-inch by 1-inch or micro 0.75-inch by 0.3-inch version, both based on Bosch's ultra-low-power BMI270. This highly integrated, low-power IMU is optimized for wearables and provides precise acceleration and angular rate measurement, plus intelligent on-chip motion-triggered interrupt features!

The SparkFun Qwiic BMA400 Triple Axis Accelerometer Breakout offers a 3-axis acceleration sensor perfect for ultra-low-power applications on an easy-to-use Qwiic standard 1-inch by 1-inch or micro 0.75-inch by 0.3-inch board. Dubbed the first "real" ultra-low-power acceleration sensor, the BMA400 is ideal for wearable and smart home applications. Where this sensor shines, however, is its ability to distinguish critical situations from false signals and avoid false alarms.
