The World’s Smallest Particulate Matter Sensor

Discover Bosch's BMV080 cutting-edge air quality sensor with SparkFun's new enclosed, Qwiic-enabled board!

Hello everyone and welcome to another Friday Product Post here at SparkFun Electronics. This week, we are excited to announce our newest sensor board that we developed in conjunction with with Bosch Sensortec! We've been working on this enclosed board for more than a year now and we are pleased to finally announce that it is available here at SparkFun.com! Following that, we have two nbew Raspberry Pi products, the 1GB version of the Raspberry Pi 4 and a PoE+ Injector! We wrap the week with a pair of N20 Motor and a new Thumbwheel Potentiometer. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Meet the world's smallest particulate matter sensor!

SparkFun Air Quality PM1/PM2.5/PM10 Sensor - BMV080 (Qwiic)

SEN-26554
$64.95

The SparkFun Qwiic Particulate Matter Sensor features Bosch’s BMV080—the world’s smallest particulate matter sensor—measuring just 4.4 × 3.0 × 3.0 mm³, over 450 times smaller than comparable devices on the market. The air quality sensor uses an innovative design based on ultra-compact lasers with integrated photodiodes. It applies sophisticated algorithms to track the PM concentration directly in free space, without requiring a fan. It can detect PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 in real time to provide actionable data.

Within the enclosure is a breakout board populated with the BMV080 sensor, connected via its flexible cable with the FPC 13-pin 0.33mm connector. On the back of the board is a horizontal Qwiic connector to reduce the amount of soldering on the board.

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (1GB)

DEV-28104
$35.00

The 1GB DDR4 RAM version of the Raspberry Pi 4 has the ability to run two 4k monitors at once via two micro HDMI ports and features the long-asked-for, true Gigabit Ethernet. This creates a much higher-performing multimedia experience with the new Pi! In addition to two USB2 ports, the Raspberry Pi 4 also has two USB 3 ports making data transfers that much quicker over USB.

Raspberry Pi PoE+ Injector

CAB-28269
$25.00

Check out this single port, 30W PoE+ Injector enabling PoE supply to PoE enabled Raspberry Pi boards. This device can supply both 55V, 550mA and 10/100/1000 Mbps data rates to the Pi through a single ethernet cable connection. Power cable sold separately. This will work with all Raspberry Pi single board computers from the 3B+ onward (excluding the Zero series).

N20 Motor With Encoder and Cable (Pair)

ROB-28633
$19.95

N20 motors are very popular for small-scale robots applications, because they're super compact, powerful, and durable. The entire motor fits within the 12mm x 10mm profile of the gearbox, which has a gear ratio of 31.5:1 and 10mm long 3mm diameter D-shaft. This pair also includes magnetic encoders with 14-pole magnets, enabling a resolution of 882 counts per revolution of the output shaft. They are rated for up to 12V, at which they can achieve a speed of 1000RPM at 0.06A.

Potentiometer - Thumbwheel Type, 25K

COM-28384
$2.75

An adjustable potentiometer can open up many interesting user interfaces. This 3/8in. round trimpot has a resistance of 25 kOhms and a tolerance of ±20%. Check the datasheet for dimensional drawings.

That's it for this week for us at SparkFun. As always, we can't wait to see what you make! Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. Please be safe out there, be kind to one another! Happy hacking!
