Independent Components!

It's Independence Day here in the States, and we are celebrating with some components that have declared their independence from their respective boards.

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Friday Product Post here at SparkFun Electronics. It's Independence Day here in the US, and while we are off trying not to blow our fingers off with questionable pyrotechnics, we still have some new products for you to check out - all of which are components from some of our popular boards that you've been asking us to carry individually! We have IR Array Sensors, nano-SIM card holders, capacitors and fuses! Check them all out below!

IR Array Sensor - 55 Degree FOV (MLX90640)

SEN-16429
$64.95

IR Array Sensor - 110 Degree FOV (MLX90640)

SEN-29459
$64.95

The MLX90640 is a fully calibrated 32x24 pixels thermal IR array in an industry standard 4-lead TO39 package with digital interface offered in either a 55 Degree or 110 Degree FOV. The MLX90640 contains 768 FIR pixels. An ambient sensor is integrated to measure the ambient temperature of the chip and supply sensor to measure the VDD. The outputs of all sensors IR, Ta and VDD are stored in internal RAM and are accessible through I2C.

SparkFun IR Array Breakout - 55 Degree FOV, MLX90640 (Qwiic)

SEN-14844
$69.95

SparkFun IR Array Breakout - 110 Degree FOV, MLX90640 (Qwiic)

SEN-14843
$69.95

If the IR Array Sensors above sound familiar, they should! The MLX90640 SparkFun IR Array Breakouts have been around since 2018 and are equipped with the same 55 Degree and 110 Degree FOV sensors you see above! With these breakouts, you can detect surface temperatures from many feet away with an accuracy of ±1.5°C (best case). To make it even easier to get your low-resolution infrared image, all communication is enacted exclusively via I2C, utilizing our handy Qwiic system. However, we still have broken out 0.1"-spaced pins in case you prefer to use a breadboard.

These boards ARE on their final production run right now, though. So if you've been thinking about picking one up, now would be the perfect time. Once these Qwiic sensors are out of stock, we won't be making them again!

nano-SIM Card Connector

COM-29460
$1.75

This surface-mount nano-SIM card connector is a compact and reliable solution for electronic devices, featuring a push/pull mechanism for easy card insertion and removal. It offers six circuits for seamless electrical connection and features a low 1.11mm profile, ideal for space-constrained designs.

Polymeric Resettable Fuse PTC - 6V, 500mA

COM-29461
$0.50

This is a handy little device that can save your system from smoking. A resettable fuse (also known as a PTC) is a resistor that has very unique properties. For this model, if your circuit tries to draw more than 500mA of current (if you have a bad short for instance) the PTC would 'trip' (by heating up). The increased resistance (trip state) would break the circuit and allow only a small leakage current.

Capacitor Aluminum Electrolytic - 47µF, 20%, 35V

COM-29462
$0.50

Panasonic FK SMT Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors feature a high endurance of up to 2000 hours at +105°C and a temperature range as low as -55°C. These capacitors offer low impedance in a miniature package.

That's it for this week at SparkFun. As always, we can't wait to see what you make! Shoot us a tweet @sparkfun, or let us know on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. Please BE SAFE OUT THERE (especially this weekend), be kind to one another! Happy hacking!

Never miss a new product!
