Hello everyone and welcome back to another Friday Product Post here at SparkFun Electronics. We have quite a few products to go over today, and we're primarily going to be focusing on one very special current sensor from Analog Devices, the ADE7953 Single Phase, Multifunction Metering IC. Not only did we put this chip on a Qwiic-capable board, we also sourced a current clam that we found worked incredibly well with it. We also recognize that, since you NEED to have a current clamp to operate the ADE7953 and some folks may not have one, we combined them into a single kit at a reduced price! Following that, we have a new Compute Module from Raspberry Pi with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM as well as a rather large price drop on our STC31 Qwiic CO2 Sensor. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
Easily monitor the power drawn by your AC devices without having to disconnect circuits, cut wires, or splice lines. The SparkFun Non-Invasive Current Sensor Kit gives you everything you need to safely measure AC energy consumption data all via I2C and the Qwiic Connect System. At the heart of this kit is the Qwiic-enabled ADE7953 single-phase multifunction metering IC from Analog Devices, paired with a 100A to 50mA split-core current transformer for a solderless and non-invasive sensor solution.
Of course, if you don't need or already have a current clamp that you like to use, we also offer the SparkFun Non-Invasive Current Sensor - ADE7953 (Qwiic) as a standalone board! By simply wrapping your own clamp around your live wire and plugging it in, you can safely measure energy consumption and integrate the data directly into your microcontroller projects.
The Split-Core Current Transformer included in the Non-Invasive Current Sensor Kit is also available on its own! This transformer is a clamp-style sensor designed to measure AC current without requiring the circuit to be disconnected. Simply open the hinged core, place it around a single current-carrying conductor, and close the clamp to create an isolated current measurement system. With a 100A input rating and a 100A:50mA current transformation ratio, it's well suited for monitoring AC motors, lighting, appliances, power supplies, and other AC equipment.
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (CM5) is a compact system-on-module based on the same Broadcom BCM2712 processor used in the Raspberry Pi 5. This version of the CM5 features a quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, 4GB of LPDDR4-4267 SDRAM with ECC, 64GB of eMMC flash storage, and dual-band 2.4/5GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0/BLE. Designed for embedded applications, the CM5 exposes its interfaces through two 100-pin high-density connectors for integration with a custom carrier board.
